A child at a desk stacked with old computers

Hello world.

I picked up a used guitar at the age of 11, and decided I would teach myself to play it.

While I am still not sure if I managed to, I have dabbled in several things of the aural nature over the years — playing in bands, electronic music production, sound design, and annoying my neighbors with generated noise.

Some times I sing (and rap) too, but that is probably a little too adjacent to noise generation than I’d like to admit.

Belgachia Rap

The song is written from the perspective of a friend lamenting the loss of their friend to addiction in the rough streets of North Kolkata, the place where I grew up and spent the first two decades of my life.

‘Belgachia’ is the name of my childhood neighborhood.

Borsha

A quintessentially Bengali way to revisit my roots and native tongue, this song continues our illustrious folk legacy of singing about the weather.

Borsha (literally ‘Rains’) is an ode to the cruel romance encompassing the local monsoons of my homeland. The modern electronic instrumentation is a re-contextualization of Bengali folk rhythms.

Halcyon Tide ft. Zuboski, Sahana

A song about finding strength amongst the people you love and weathering the worst together and holding on.

This track was produced in 48 hours in collaboration with my friends Zuboski and Sahana.

Papa Blue

A track exploring a little girl’s strained relationship with her father. The song narrates a recurring nightmare where she witnesses her father leave and never return.

This song was produced in 48 hours in collaboration with my dear friend Rajasee.

Socially Distant Media

A collection of audio-visual work shared on social media during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. These cover a snapshot of the various emotions, contexts and scenarios constructing the cultural zeitgeist at the time.

Falling Short

My first foray into long-format musicianship, this vulnerable musical exhibition was composed as a reaction to severe lockdown isolation, impostor syndrome, and an existentialist breakdown of my purpose within society.

Untitled Cyberpunk

The reality we know is interconnected with the unseen by some design of thought we have yet to know.

All forms of aesthetic expression are presupposed from other derivations that have reality in a differential milieu: otherwise, it would not be as funny to see this spaceman do the dance from ‘Thriller’.

Procedural Audio Generation

Experiments with procedural audio created by playing with several interconnected LFOs to produce a faux modular synthesis environment within Ableton Live.

Pocket Operator

Experiments with low bit sampling and manipulation along with a very chaotic phase of turning everything into noise.

Rage Against the Injustice

As someone who’s significantly moved by a world in tatters and flames, I am often predisposed to expressing my anger through music.

Resist, Protest, Vote

A call to action during the protests against the NRC and CAA in 2019, where I was an active grassroots participant.

A modern sequel to Eat, Pray, Love, if you will.

There is no Originality:
everything becomes from what has gone before, due to changing taste determined by our valuation of styles at the time. A perfect example of this is my obsession with 80s throwbacks circa 2019-20.

Washed Away

This multi-modal work is nowhere near the perfection I would have wanted it to be. However, this was written at the inflection point of my long journey towards rejecting perfection, and in turn my distorted realities. It is in hindsight, an admittedly poignant emotional expression of my being.

This is also when people coincidentally started noticing I seem to have a whole thing about water metaphors in my work.

as ice thaws into water droplets the natural desire is to flow follow where the stream goes find the ocean and it’s tempting to seep into the earth get absorbed quench someone’s thirst but ice only thaws because it’s not able to hold it together and the currents are just scared water droplets wanting to be part of something bigger sometimes I wish I would just evaporate avoid getting washed away at least I could be reborn as rain

The Tangibility of Performance

Sound has no inherent meaning other than being a representation of vibrations moving through columns of matter. It is the act of listening and interpreting the resonances, harmonies, and rhythms that impart musicality. In a similar manner, we maintain inherent affinities with our physical instrumentations of sound.

Herein lies a sample of different situations and the unique affinities that coalesced as part of my musicality.

Sometimes these affinities led to magnanimous performances on stage. Other times, it was the sense of accomplishment in creating entire microcosms of musicality within 15 minutes.

(My friends have often wagered me on absurd challenges, and I have competitively risen to the occasion everytime.)

My journey with music has been a long and memorable one, from composing fusion orchestral pieces (and some really awkward commentary) with youthful exuberance at the age of 13...

...to making raunchy, slapstick party beats about a raunchy, slapstick TV series. (No regrets)

This is the real musical prodigy in my household.

No, the piano is not mine, nor my cat’s.
